WAFCON 2026: results and final standings of Group C as Malawi pull off the upset
The verdict is in for Group C. After matchday 3, Malawi and Nigeria have punched their tickets to the quarter-finals of the WAFCON Morocco 2026. Zambia, despite having 6 points and a +6 goal difference, pay the price for their defeat against the Super Falcons. Egypt finish bottom of the group.
Matchday 3 results
Nigeria finished with a bang. The Super Falcons overwhelmed Egypt 6-2 with goals from Oshoala, Gift Monday, Kanu, Ucheibe, Ajibade and Omewa.
In the other fixture, Zambia edged Malawi 2-1 thanks to goals from Banda and Chilufya. Tabitha Chawinga pulled one back for the Flames in the 71st minute.
A rollercoaster campaign
Malawi have made history. They defeated Nigeria 3-2, then Egypt 3-1, before falling 1-2 to Zambia. Six points and top of the group thanks to head-to-head results. It's their very first appearance in the WAFCON quarter-finals.
Nigeria bounced back after a rocky start. Beaten 2-3 by Malawi in their opener, the defending champions then beat Zambia 1-0 before demolishing Egypt. Six points, second in the group.
Zambia exit with regrets: a 6-0 win over Egypt, a 0-1 loss to Nigeria, and a 2-1 win against Malawi. Six points, but eliminated on head-to-head. Egypt finish bottom with three defeats, three goals scored and 14 conceded.
