After a disappointing start to the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, marked by a surprising defeat to Malawi (3-2), Nigeria bounced back in style with two consecutive victories, securing their spot in the quarter-finals of the competition.

After overcoming Zambia (1-0) on matchday two, the Super Falcons thrashed Egypt (6-2) on Wednesday to finish second in Group C, just behind Malawi, who lost to Zambia (2-1).

With 9 goals scored in 3 matches, Nigeria now boasts the tournament's most prolific attack, ahead of Ivory Coast and Zambia (8 goals each), Malawi (7 goals), and Morocco (5 goals).

Even more impressively, the Nigerian women have now reached a record 199 goals in the history of the Women's AFCON. According to Opta, that's at least 103 more than any other nation in the competition (South Africa, 96).

This figure confirms Nigeria's utter dominance of African women's football over the years and once again puts them at the top of the favorites to win the title.

Nigeria's next challenge will be against the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon next Sunday in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
