The match was tight for long stretches, disrupted by frequent fouls and physical battles. Cape Verde dominated possession but couldn't break through the Saudi defense, while Saudi Arabia lost Hassan Al-Tambakti to injury as early as the 32nd minute. Right before halftime, Mohamed Kanno had one of the rare Saudi opportunities, but Vozinha made the save.

After the break, Cape Verde pressed forward, especially through Jamiro Monteiro, who was denied by Mohammed Al-Owais. Wagner Pina also tried his luck from distance, but without success. Unable to find the breakthrough despite late attacking changes, Saudi Arabia finally saw their hopes dashed. Cape Verde, meanwhile, continues to chase their World Cup dream.
