After South Africa's surprise victory over South Korea, Algeria's chances of reaching the round of 16 have dropped. Here's why.

South Africa's unexpected win against South Korea (1-0) has shaken up the race for the best third-placed teams at this 2026 World Cup. This result has directly impacted Algeria, whose qualification hopes have taken a significant blow.

According to the latest statistical projections, the third-placed team in Group J, Algeria's group, now has only a 72% chance of finishing among the top eight third-placed teams—a drop of nearly 10% compared to previous estimates.
