World Cup 2026: Cooling breaks, UEFA and LFP make a decision

Cooling breaks have sparked debate ever since the kickoff of this 2026 World Cup.

Even though weather conditions have remained reasonable, every half of the matches is now interrupted for two to three minutes to allow players to rehydrate—and, incidentally, to provide broadcasters with an extra advertising slot each half. However, this approach doesn't seem to convince other football governing bodies.

According to L’Équipe, UEFA and the LFP have confirmed that they will continue to implement cooling breaks only when temperature thresholds truly justify them. There are currently no plans to generalize this practice in European competitions.
