This marks the pinnacle of his refereeing career. On Friday, July 17, 2026, FIFA posted a video on its official X account showing the remaining referees gathered in a room before announcing the lucky official chosen for the final.

This match will be the fourth at the 2026 World Cup for the 46-year-old referee, after Brazil-Morocco (1-1), Jordan-Algeria (1-2), and Mexico-Ecuador (2-0).

A referee already familiar to both teams

While he hasn't officiated for Spain or Argentina in this tournament, both sides have crossed paths with him before. In fact, he was the man in the middle for the Euro 2024 semifinal won by La Roja against Les Bleus. He also officiated Argentina's shocking defeat to Saudi Arabia at the 2022 World Cup.
