Édouard Mendy’s injury and his exit during Senegal’s match against Norway caused widespread concern, but the "Lions of Teranga" coaching staff and fans can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

Recent MRI scans revealed no tear in his meniscus. Édouard Mendy is suffering from a knee sprain due to an overstretched medial ligament, which is a much less severe diagnosis than initially feared after his forced substitution.

Practically, Mendy will officially miss the crucial match against Iraq on Friday, as confirmed by the Senegalese Football Federation. The Al-Ahli Saudi FC goalkeeper will need a period of rest and treatment before returning to action.

But hope remains alive. If Senegal advance to the round of 16 at the World Cup, head coach Baba Thiaw could have his first-choice keeper back between the posts. Great news for Senegal, who are now fully focused on the must-win clash with Iraq.
