Portugal has been knocked out by Spain (0-1) in the Round of 16 at this 2026 World Cup.

The Portuguese exit the competition with plenty of regrets. Roberto Martinez even believes his squad delivered their best performance of the tournament.

"The players played with heart. I think this was our best match of the World Cup. The difference came down to a ball that hit the crossbar and didn't go in. We deserved to go to extra time. We looked one of the tournament favorites straight in the eye," said the Portugal coach after the match.
