World Cup 2026: The different scenarios for Algeria to qualify for the round of 32

Thanks to their stunning comeback against Jordan (2-1), Algeria has completely revived its chances of reaching the round of 32 at the 2026 World Cup. Ahead of the final day in Group J, the Fennecs still have their fate in their own hands, and several scenarios could allow them to continue their journey.

• A win against Austria: Algeria would be guaranteed a spot in the next round. If Argentina does not lose to Jordan, the Greens would finish second in the group. Even if Jordan wins, a six-point total would at least secure a place among the best third-placed teams.
• A draw: Vladimir Petkovic's men would finish the group stage with four points. That tally usually offers a very strong chance of advancing among the top eight third-placed teams.
• A defeat: The Fennecs would remain stuck on three points and would have to hope for a series of favorable results in the other groups. Qualification would still be mathematically possible, but it would be a very tough ask.
