World Cup 2026: Veteran Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic to officiate Brazil vs Morocco clash
The Atlas Lions now know the identity of the referee who will oversee their opening match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It is the Slovenian official Slavko Vincic.
This Group C blockbuster between Morocco and Brazil is set for Saturday, June 13, at 23:00 local time at the iconic MetLife Stadium.
Slavko Vincic will be assisted on the lines by his fellow countrymen Tomaž Klančnik and Andraž Kovačič. Swiss official Sandro Schärer will serve as the fourth official, while Stefan De Almeida takes up the role of reserve assistant referee.
Vincic is regarded as one of the most experienced referees in Europe, having taken charge of the 2024 UEFA Champions League final between Dortmund and Real Madrid (0-2). He also refereed the Euro 2024 semi-final between Spain and France (2-1), and was the man in the middle for the 2022 Europa League final, where Eintracht Frankfurt triumphed over Rangers in a dramatic penalty shootout.
