Following England's defeat to Argentina, Jürgen Klopp stepped up to defend Thomas Tuchel and his tactical decisions.

The criticism aimed at Thomas Tuchel after England's 2-1 elimination at the hands of Argentina is not unanimous. In fact, Jürgen Klopp stood up for his compatriot, arguing that post-match analysis often oversimplifies the job of a coach.

"People always talk after the match as if coaching was easy. As if you just chose to attack or defend, and that's it. It doesn't work like that. Football is much more complex," the former Liverpool manager explained.

However, Klopp understands Tuchel's choice to try to protect his lead.

"I see the criticism of Tuchel for trying to defend the 1-0, but let me tell you something: If he hadn't done that and had kept attacking, the same people would have said: 'Why didn't he control the game? Why didn't he defend his lead?'"

He concluded:

"In knockout football, no matter what decision you make, someone will criticize you (…) Managing a match at this stage is never simple."
