For the first time in history, an African national team has scored five goals in a single World Cup match. Senegal achieved this historic feat with a resounding 5-0 victory over Iraq in the third round of the 2026 World Cup.

The goals were scored by Abdoulaye Seck in the 4th minute, Ismaïla Sarr in the 56th, a brace from Pape Gueye in the 59th and 71st, and Iliman Ndiaye in the 82nd.
Iraq played with ten men from the 13th minute after Sulaka was sent off, and their defense completely collapsed.

With this emphatic victory, Senegal improves its goal difference and emerges as a strong contender to qualify as the best third-placed team in its group.
