FIFA has reportedly ordered Egypt to remove the stars from their national team jersey before the 2026 World Cup, following a dispute over the shirt’s design.

According to sources, the governing body has clarified that stars on international team kits are exclusively reserved for nations that have actually won the World Cup—not for achievements on a continental level.

As a result, the Egyptian Football Association has been told to modify the team’s kit ahead of their group-stage opener against Belgium.

Beyond the star emblem, FIFA also demanded that the gold coloring used for players’ names and squad numbers be replaced with a more conventional style that complies with official tournament guidelines.

For Egypt, the stars had long been a proud tribute to their record seven Africa Cup of Nations titles—a visual reminder of their historical dominance on the African continent. Now, that symbol may have to be set aside in the name of uniformity.
