Beyond the bronze medal, France and England are battling for a hefty bonus, with a $2 million difference at stake.

France and England meet this Saturday to contest third place at the 2026 World Cup, just days after their respective eliminations by Spain and Argentina. While the sporting motivation might seem limited for two nations who were aiming for the title, there’s still a significant financial reward on the line.

According to FIFA’s official scale, the federation finishing third will collect $29 million—nearly €25 million. The loser won’t leave empty-handed, though: fourth place brings in $27 million, or about €23 million.

That means victory represents a $2 million bonus—almost €1.7 million—for either the FFF or the FA. These sums will be paid directly to the federations, who will then decide on their distribution. In France, part of the amount is expected to go to the players and staff, in line with internal agreements.
