Argentina is reeling from heartbreak after their defeat in the 2026 World Cup final against Spain (1-0 after extra time).

As the team was expected to head home to be welcomed by supporters and the president, La Nacion reports that Lionel Messi was not among the travelling party. La Pulga opted to fly straight to Miami alongside Rodrigo De Paul to rejoin their MLS club as the new season kicks off.

Messi and De Paul are not the only ones taking this route. Enzo Fernández, Lautaro Martínez, Julián Álvarez, Gerónimo Rulli, Nicolás Paz, Cristian Romero, Nahuel Molina Lucero, and Juan Musso will also not be returning to Argentina.
