2026 World Cup: Pape Gueye eagerly awaits the Blues

Senegal is set to take on France in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Pape Gueye sets the tone for the highly anticipated clash just months away.

Crowned African champions just days ago, Senegal will face France this summer at the 2026 World Cup. Well ahead of this major showdown, Pape Gueye has already shared his thoughts on the upcoming battle with Les Bleus.

"Our elders have already played this match. In Senegal, everyone knows about that 2002 game—El-Hadji Diouf often talks about it (laughs). It’s going to be a great match, they have a lot of talent. But so do we. So we’ll fight with our own weapons, and I think we can compete with the world’s best nations. We can win this kind of match, I hope we do, and we’ll give it everything we’ve got," the Villarreal midfielder told Téléfoot on Sunday.

As a reminder, in 2002 the Senegalese stunned the world by defeating the French (1-0).
