2026 World Cup (Q): Good news for Algeria
Riyad Mahrez

Algeria has some good news on the table as they await the FIFA matchdays in October 2025.

Not yet officially qualified for the 2026 World Cup, Algeria is set to maximize its chances in October. The national team has received a boost that could favor their qualification. Originally scheduled as an away game, the World Cup qualifier between Algeria and Somalia is now expected to be played at home.

Indeed, Somalia has been without a FIFA-approved stadium since 1986, mainly due to ongoing conflict in the country. The Ocean Stars have been forced to play their "home" matches on neutral ground, most recently in Uganda against Guinea. For their two upcoming fixtures in October, against Algeria and then Mozambique, the Somali Football Federation is considering traveling. This has been reported by beIN Sports Mena journalist Hafid Derradji. This option will greatly simplify logistics for the already-eliminated Somali side.

The Algerian Fennecs will therefore be able to count on the support of their fans next October. And the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou is the lucky venue.
