Defeated 3-1 by France in their opening match, Senegal is now seeking its first points of the World Cup as they take on Norway, who dispatched Iraq 4-1.

World Cup 2026: The official and complete group stage schedule

For this clash, scheduled overnight from Monday to Tuesday at 00:00 GMT, Wilton Sampaio will be the man in the middle at the New York New Jersey Stadium. The Brazilian referee will be assisted by his compatriots Bruno Pires and Bruno Boschilia.

New Zealander Campbell-Kirk Kawana-Waugh will serve as the fourth official, while his countryman Isaac Trevis will be the reserve assistant referee.

This will be Wilton Sampaio's second match at this World Cup, having already officiated the tournament opener between Mexico and South Africa. The hosts clinched a 2-0 victory in a match that saw three red cards.

He made history by becoming the first referee ever to turn on his microphone and explain his decision to send off South African player Zwane to the 100,000 spectators at the Azteca Stadium.

The only hiccup was that he did it in English—a language he clearly did not master—which left his explanation unclear, especially for South African Mudau, who stood beside him looking puzzled.
