A Vote of Confidence or a Warning? Inside Al Ahly's boardroom debate over Ammouta

Al Ahly SC board member and football supervisor Sayed Abdel Hafeez has firmly dismissed growing speculation regarding the future of head coach Hussein Ammouta following the team's recent draw against Al Mokawloon Al Arab according to television presenter Ahmed Shobair.

Board dismisses early dismissal talks

Speaking on his programme on Al Nahar TV, Shobair revealed details of a direct conversation with Abdel Hafeez regarding murmurs of dissatisfaction among certain club officials over the team's tactical displays and technical direction.

When questioned about reports suggesting the club might consider parting ways with the Moroccan tactician, Abdel Hafeez was taken aback by the suggestion.

"Are we going to change managers every five matches? That is unacceptable" Abdel Hafiz responded emphasizing that the board remains committed to supporting the coaching staff despite the recent dip in performance.

Internal debate following Al Mokawloon draw

According to Shobair, the internal debate emerged after Al Ahly were held to a frustrating draw against Al Mokawloon Al Arab in the Egyptian Premier League. While the performance failed to satisfy fans and several board members, the club leadership resolved not to make hasty decisions based on a single result.

Before the stalemate, Ammouta had guided the Red Devils to three consecutive victories to open the domestic campaign, overcoming ENPPI (3-2), ZED FC (2-0) and Smouha (1-0).

The prevailing stance within the boardroom is to focus on the broader start to the season rather than reacting impulsively to an isolated setback.

The fragility of public backing

While the public backing provides short-term stability for Ammouta, managerial security at Al Ahly is rarely absolute.

As Shobair observed during his broadcast, repeated public votes of confidence in Egyptian football can quickly become a warning sign if performances on the pitch do not convince the hierarchy. The high expectations surrounding Ammouta’s project mean that securing points alone is insufficient, the team must also deliver an identity and control that satisfies a demanding fanbase and board.
