AFCON 2026: Malang Sarr set to choose Senegal!
With AFCON 2026 on the horizon, Malang Sarr appears to have made his decision: the talented RC Lens defender is preparing to don the colors of the Senegalese Lions.
At 26, the player who came through the ranks at OGC Nice and had stints with Chelsea and Porto has revived his career in France’s Ligue 1. Since joining Lens in the summer of 2024, the left-footer has quickly established himself as a reliable asset, racking up 20 appearances in his debut season and earning a market valuation of ten million euros.
"Senegal is my foundation!"
Until now a French youth international (6 caps), Sarr has never received a senior call-up. Speaking in an interview with TaggatInside, he now openly expresses his desire to represent the country of his heritage:
"If Senegal calls me up, I’ll answer with pride. It would be an honor."
Born in Nice but deeply rooted in Senegal, particularly in Rufisque, Sarr speaks movingly about his regular visits and his connection to Teungueth FC:
"Senegal is my foundation. I grew up with its values, its culture, and its respect."
The message is crystal clear. Coach Pape Thiaw now knows he can count on a major defensive reinforcement.
