Taking over from Djamel Belmadi after a string of painful setbacks—eliminations in the group stage at the 2021 and 2023 AFCON tournaments, followed by the disastrous failure to qualify for the 2022 World CupVladimir Petkovic inherited an Algerian team in the midst of an identity crisis. Without shaking up the foundations, the experienced coach managed to stabilize a fragile squad while gradually integrating a new, still inconsistent generation. While the team’s style of play has yet to fully regain its former shine, the results speak for themselves: 20 matches, 15 wins, 3 draws, 2 defeats, 52 goals scored and 19 conceded.
