Long under pressure and then increasingly bold, Algeria pulled off a sensational feat in Rotterdam. Thanks to a late goal from Anis Hadj Moussa, Les Verts toppled the Netherlands on their own turf just days before the 2026 World Cup.

The Algerian team claimed a prestigious 1-0 victory over the Netherlands this Wednesday in Rotterdam, as part of their preparations for the 2026 World Cup. After a particularly difficult start to the match, Vladimir Petkovic's men showed great character to withstand the pressure and then strike at the perfect moment.

For the first twenty-five minutes, Les Verts were under sustained pressure, allowing the Oranje to generate several dangerous chances. The Dutch even managed to find the back of the net, but their goal was ruled out for offside. Gradually, Algeria shook off their lethargy and created two great opportunities before the break—first through Nabil Bentaleb with a volley, then Mohamed-Amine Amoura, who was perfectly set up by Riyad Mahrez after a sublime nutmeg pass through Virgil van Dijk's legs.

After the break, both coaches made several substitutions and the contest became more balanced. The two teams traded blows in a far more open second half. Just as the match seemed destined for a draw, Anis Hadj Moussa sent Algerian fans into raptures in the 88th minute. The Feyenoord winger found the net in his home stadium, De Kuip in Rotterdam, sealing a prestigious win for Les Verts. With this victory, Algeria handed the Netherlands their first defeat at this ground since 2023 and sent a powerful message just days before the start of the 2026 World Cup.
