Xanti Pupuma reveals how Milford plan to avoid axe

Milford FC head coach Dr. Xanti Pupuma has revealed how the newly promoted Betway Premiership outfit plans to avoid relegation as they look to stake their claim in the topflight division.

The KwaZulu-Natal side have made an impressive start to life in the elite league, registering two wins and as many defeats, including a solitary draw in their opening five matches of the 2026/27 campaign.

Notably, Milford have only lost to defending champions Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns thus far, with the Brazilians ending their three-game unbeaten run in the capital on Wednesday.

With his troops currently sitting fifth on the log standings, having picked up seven points, Pupuma says the mandate was to be a force to be reckoned with on home soil and upset opponents on the road in the first five outings, as they look to beat the drop.

“The requirement was to win the home games and get whatever we get away, which I think we've done that. So, that doesn't change,” said the Milford boss.

"Obviously, we will identify the games that we think we can get more than one point and be a little bit more aggressive.

"But for now, it's just to take care of home games and then we see by December where we are.

The Stallions return to Betway Premiership action with a clash against Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday, with the Chilli Boys desperately in search of their first win of the season.
