Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco: the new list of approved stadiums is out!

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the official list of stadiums approved to host the group stage matches of the 2025 Champions League and Confederation Cup. This eagerly awaited update shines a spotlight on Africa’s football powerhouses, while also exposing some worrying shortcomings in certain countries.

Leading the way, Morocco cements its status as a continental benchmark with twelve CAF-approved venues, followed by South Africa (ten stadiums) and Algeria, which climbs onto the podium with seven certified infrastructures, including the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Baraki and Miloud-Hadefi in Oran. Ivory Coast (six stadiums) and Egypt (five) round out this prestigious top five.

The real surprise comes from Tunisia, a historic African football nation, which has only one stadium approved for these competitions—a strong signal of the urgent need to modernize its facilities. Even more alarming, several countries do not have a single stadium that meets CAF’s international standards, including Guinea, Sudan, Sierra Leone, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
