Algeria host Zambia in Tizi Ouzou in their first match since the 2026 World Cup, as Ibrahim Hamdani makes his debut.

Nearly three months after being eliminated by Switzerland (2-0) in the round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, Algeria return to action. The Desert Warriors will host Zambia on Friday, September 25, at the Hocine Aït Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou, in the first round of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

This match will also mark Ibrahim Hamdani’s first official appearance in charge of the senior national team. The new coach, assisted in particular by Anthar Yahia, is reorganizing a group he inherited after Vladimir Petković’s departure. He called up 26 players for this first camp. However, there has been a change to the squad, as Nabil Bentaleb, who was injured with Lille during the trip to Nice, announced that he would miss the match. Adel Bourabaa has been called up to replace him.

Zambia promise to play for victory

George Lwandamina, meanwhile, is not approaching the match as an underdog. For several days, the Zambian coach has repeated that his team respects Algeria without fearing them. Before the trip, he said: “We have an opportunity to rewrite history,” adding: “We will play and win.” Zambia therefore want to avoid simply sitting back and defending, and aim to seek a result from the outset of these qualifiers.

After this opening match, Algeria will travel to Bujumbura to face Burundi on September 29, before ending the camp with a friendly against Niger on October 6 in Tizi Ouzou.
