As the first match of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers approaches, George Lwandamina has made his ambitions against Algeria clear.

For their opening match in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, Algeria will host Zambia this Friday, September 25, at the Hocine-Aït-Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou. Two days before kick-off, Zambian coach George Lwandamina once again made his ambitions clear.

Lwandamina is directly targeting all three points

Speaking to ZNBC Today, the Chipolopolo coach did not hide his objective ahead of this particularly challenging away match.

“Winning our first match in these African qualifiers at the expense of the Algerian team would be the best-case scenario for us, before hosting Togo for the second match of this continental competition,” he said.

“But at the same time, the task will not be easy against a strong team with excellent players who play in various leagues around the world, which could make our job more difficult,” he continued.

Zambia therefore want to make a strong start in Group I, which also includes Togo and Burundi. The Zambians had already issued an initial warning ahead of this meeting, confirming that they will not be travelling to Algeria to sit back and defend.

Algeria – Zambia: date, time and what comes next

Kick-off for Algeria – Zambia is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. Algerian time this Friday, September 25, at the Hocine-Aït-Ahmed Stadium. It will be Brahim Hemdani’s first official match in charge of the Fennecs.

Algeria will then travel to Bujumbura to face Burundi on September 29 at 2:00 p.m. The Fennecs will conclude this international break with a friendly against Niger on October 6 in Tizi Ouzou.

Zambia, for their part, will host Togo on September 29 for their second match in these qualifiers.
