Argentina: fire hits Leandro Paredes’ home
Leandro Paredes’ home was hit by a fire on Thursday morning in Argentina, fortunately without causing any injuries.
It was a major scare for Leandro Paredes. According to TyC Sports, a fire broke out early Thursday morning at the Boca Juniors midfielder’s house, located in a gated community in Canning, Argentina.
The fire reportedly started upstairs after a battery caught fire. The swift intervention of the volunteer firefighters from Esteban Echeverría prevented the flames from spreading to the rest of the property. No injuries were reported following the incident.
More fear than harm for Paredes
The 32-year-old can breathe a sigh of relief after this dramatic episode. Still under contract with Boca Juniors, Paredes is continuing his club season as normal despite a much more complicated situation with the Argentina national team.
The midfielder is currently suspended by FIFA following the incidents that occurred after the 2026 World Cup final, which Argentina lost 1-0 after extra time to Spain on July 19.
Ten-match suspension with Argentina
FIFA handed Leandro Paredes a ten-match suspension, as well as a fine of $90,000, for his role in the clashes that followed the final whistle. The sanction applies only to matches involving La Albiceleste and therefore does not prevent him from playing for Boca Juniors.
The Argentine Football Association has since decided to challenge the decision and has officially launched proceedings in an attempt to have the punishment reduced. The sanction comes at a particular time for Paredes, with Lionel Messi set to bid farewell to the national team against Benin on October 6.
While awaiting developments in his international case, Paredes can above all be grateful that the fire at his home caused no human casualties.
