Speaking to the media ahead of Argentina’s opener against Algeria at this 2026 World Cup, Lionel Scaloni was eager to reassure fans about the fitness of his key players.

The Argentina manager emphasized the continuity of the project and the pivotal role of experienced players in a squad that relies heavily on balance and experience. Naturally, Scaloni took the opportunity to provide updates on Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez.

“Everyone wants to see Messi on the pitch. We want to see him play for everything he brings. As far as I’m concerned, that will always be the case. I see nothing negative about his presence on the field. He’s been in different situations, but he has always been there and has always been fundamental for us. He’s in top form. Julián had an ankle issue. We took care of him to make sure he arrived in peak condition. His recovery has paid off. Emiliano Martínez is fine.
