Atlético Madrid Demands UEFA Action Against Real Madrid Stars After Derby Clash
The fallout from Atlético Madrid’s Champions League elimination against Real Madrid has taken new turn with the Colchoneros submitting official complaints to UEFA regarding alleged unsportsmanlike behavior from Kylian Mbappé, Vinicius Jr., Antonio Rüdiger and Dani Ceballos.
Allegations and Video Evidence
Atlético's provided UEFA with four video clips, claiming the Real Madrid players engaged in provocative or inappropriate actions after the match:
- Antonio Rüdiger was allegedly filmed making throat slitting gesture toward Atlético fans.
- Vinicius Jr. reportedly taunted opposition players & supporters with exaggerated celebrations.
- Dani Ceballos who didn't play in the match, was seen making obscene hand gesture.
- Kylian Mbappé was caught on camera making offensive motion toward the Atlético crowd.
Atlético argues that such behavior violates fair play principles and cites past UEFA sanctions including one imposed on Diego Simeone in 2019 for similar gesture.
Post Match Chaos
Tensions flared after Real Madrid’s penalty shootout victory with their players celebrating near Atlético’s hardcore supporters. The situation escalated as plastic bottles and lighter were thrown from the stands, one of which Thibaut Courtois handed to the referee.
UEFA’s Next Move
Interestingly, while Atlético Madrid's already under UEFA investigation for fan disturbances, the club insists that the governing body must also discipline the Real Madrid players involved.
