Ballon d'Or 2026: Fabian Ruiz still dreams of winning the trophy

In an interview with AS, Fabian Ruiz discussed the race for the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

The Spanish world champion believes he has had a season that allows him to dream of winning the award. "Well, why not? In reality, collectively, I am the player who has won the most titles. I think there have been seven. I am very happy with this season and with what I have achieved. With what I have accomplished, and with the feeling of being important at PSG and with the national team. That is important to me. The truth is that the Ballon d’Or is a very prestigious award, something every player dreams of winning. I am happy that people are talking about me and recognising my work. I will try to finish as high as possible in the rankings, so why not dream about it," said the PSG midfielder.

The Spaniard is competing with numerous attacking players, such as Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, Ousmane Dembélé, Harry Kane and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. "Everyone knows that it is normal for attackers to have better statistics than midfielders, defenders or goalkeepers," Ruiz continued. "It is more difficult for a defender to reach the same numbers as an attacker, but I think that in recent years, other positions have gained considerable value and importance. (...) If one of my teammates wins it, so much the better. I do not see them as rivals, but as teammates who also deserve to be there and deserve a chance to win," he added.
