Ballon d'or: Is Dembélé at a disadvantage due to his injury?

Injured and ruled out of the high-stakes clash between PSG and Barça in the Champions League, is Ousmane Dembélé at risk of losing the Ballon d'Or because of his injury?

After sustaining a thigh injury this Friday while on duty with the French national team, Ousmane Dembélé is set to miss between 6 and 8 weeks of action. It's a massive blow for PSG and for the former Barcelona winger, who remains a strong contender to win the 2025 Ballon d'Or. However, this setback will not impact the awarding of football's most coveted individual prize. In fact, the period considered by voters for their selections closed over a month ago.

"The reference period covers the entire season, from August 1, 2024, to August 2, 2025, including international competitions (Club World Cup; Euro, Copa America, and Women's AFCON). As a reminder, the 2024 Olympics were included in the previous edition," clarified article 3 of the Ballon d'Or regulations.
