FC Barcelona is on the verge of landing Rodri. The Catalans have reached an agreement with Manchester City for around €50 million for the Spanish midfielder.

The Rodri saga is nearing its conclusion. According to RAC1, FC Barcelona and Manchester City have come to terms on the transfer of the 30-year-old midfielder. The second offer from Barcelona, estimated at €50 million, finally convinced the Citizens after they had rejected an initial bid of €45 million.

A few documents still need to be finalized before the move becomes official. Rodri is expected to report on August 12 to begin training with his new team. This breakthrough comes just days after Barça entered the race to sign Rodri.

A World Cup winner valued at €50M

This move would allow Barça to secure one of the standout players from the last 2026 World Cup. Crowned champion with Spain, Rodri was named player of the tournament, marking his return to the top level after a period hampered by injuries.

His current market value, according to Transfermarkt, stands at €50 million—precisely the amount reported in the agreement between Barcelona and Manchester City.

At Barcelona, he would reunite with several fellow Spanish World Cup winners, notably Pedri and Dani Olmo, with whom he formed a crucial part of La Roja's midfield.

Mourinho and Florentino Pérez reportedly frustrated by his choice

This transfer also deals a major blow to Real Madrid. For a long time, the situation seemed to favor Los Merengues. José Mourinho had personally made Rodri a top priority to strengthen his midfield, while the player had even come close to an agreement with Florentino Pérez.

Ultimately, Rodri favored the project presented by Hansi Flick. According to Sport, this decision particularly irritated Florentino Pérez, who thought the deal was all but sealed. Mourinho was also reportedly very upset, as he had counted on the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner to reshape his midfield.

Barça is now set to wrap up one of the marquee deals of their transfer window, signing a player at the peak of his powers following his World Cup triumph.
