Bayern Munich: Season over for Upamecano?

The international break has left its mark on Munich. And not just any mark. After Alphonso Davies, it's Dayot Upamecano who joins the injury list. The French defender suffers from a cartilage lesion in his left knee. The verdict is clear: season almost over.

The injury occurred during the Nations League quarter-final between France and Croatia. Upamecano, who stayed on the field for over 120 minutes, worsened his condition by playing injured. A major blow for Vincent Kompany, who loses two starters before a crucial Champions League quarter-final against Inter.

While Raphaël Guerreiro can cover for Davies, the central defense becomes a puzzle. Hiroki Ito, often injured, and Eric Dier, accustomed to the bench, offer no guarantees. Until now, Upamecano formed a solid duo with Kim Min-jae. In the Bundesliga, Bayern holds a six-point lead. But in the Champions League, the absence of its defensive stalwarts could weigh heavily. Against an in-form Inter, Kompany will need to find solutions... and fast.
