Benin ramps up preparations for U23 AFCON and the Olympics
Benin is already setting its sights on the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. Interim U23 Cheetahs head coach Bruno Adoula Goudjo has unveiled an initial list of 28 players preselected as part of preparations for the African zone qualifiers.
An initial selection to build the squad
This preliminary squad marks the first step in Benin's build-up for the African zone qualifiers. The coach has called up players from various clubs in the national league to broaden his scouting base.
The squad will soon be called together for an initial training camp, with dates and details to be announced later. However, this first list is expected to be just one step in forming the final squad that will represent Benin in the qualifiers.
U23 AFCON as the main target
The U23 Cheetahs' journey will begin with the African qualifiers before a potential ticket to the 2027 U23 AFCON, set to take place in Egypt. This continental tournament carries extra weight as it will also serve as a qualifying event for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
