The Houston Dynamo are apologizing to their fans ahead of their match against Inter Miami this Sunday evening, on the second day of the MLS Western Conference. The reason? Lionel Messi won't be in the team for the match. The news came as a surprise to everyone in the opposing camp.

Although fans had hoped to see the Argentine star, Messi's absence was beyond their control. In a statement, Houston Dynamo explained:

We would like to apologize to our supporters for Lionel Messi's absence from tonight's match against Inter Miami. Initially, we thought Messi would be fit to play, but the latest player status report indicates that he did not make the trip to Houston. Unfortunately, we have no control over who plays for our opponent. We understand the disappointment this may cause, and we are committed to offering free tickets to a future match to all attendees tonight.

This isn't the first time MLS has had to deal with this kind of situation. Last year, the Whitecaps also had to apologize and offer discounts after learning of Messi's absence before their match against Inter Miami.
