After beating Zambia, Algeria travel to Burundi aiming to secure a second consecutive victory in these qualifiers.

Algeria continue their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with their first trip to Bujumbura. Having beaten Zambia (3-1) at the Hocine-Aït-Ahmed Stadium in Tizi Ouzou thanks to Jaouen Hadjam, Ibrahim Maza and Anis Hadj Moussa, Brahim Hemdani’s men sit top of Group I with three points and a goal difference of +2. Togo, who beat Burundi 1-0, also have three points but a goal difference of +1. Burundi and Zambia bring up the rear without a single point.

Burundi already under pressure

The Intamba mu Rugamba therefore already have very little room for error after their opening defeat in Lomé. Against an Algerian side keen to quickly pull away in the race for qualification, Burundi will have to show a very different face. The Fennecs, for their part, will look to confirm the early promise seen under Hemdani, notably with Maza scoring and assisting and Amoura providing two assists against Zambia. A second consecutive victory would above all allow Algeria to make a perfect start to the qualifiers.

Two key players absent, Hadj Moussa doubtful

Hemdani will nevertheless have to cope without Rayan Aït-Nouri, released from the squad after the tense episode that occurred against Zambia, and Amine Gouiri, who is out after feeling a muscle problem during the opening match. According to La Provence, the forward should nevertheless be available for his club’s next fixture against Troyes. Another doubt concerns Anis Hadj Moussa: the winger picked up a hamstring problem in training and remains under observation. His availability will be assessed before the match, having scored just a few minutes after coming on against the Zambians.
