CAF Champions League: Al-Ahly and Mamelodi in the semi-finals!
The curtain has fallen on the first leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-final return matches, and three giants have confirmed their status. This Tuesday, Al Ahly, Mamelodi Sundowns, and Pyramids booked their tickets to the semi-finals, while Espérance de Tunis, AS FAR Rabat, and Al-Hilal exit the competition.
Espérance frustrated by Sundowns
At home, Espérance needed to overcome a one-goal deficit against the South Africans. Despite dominating the match, the Tunisians were frustrated by the solid defense of Sundowns.
A goal from Chiheb Jbeli briefly rekindled hope, only to be disallowed. Final score: 0-0, not enough to continue the journey.
AS FAR wins but exits the competition!
In Meknès, AS FAR did everything possible to overturn the heavy 4-1 defeat suffered in the first leg against Pyramids. The match started strong with a goal from El Fahli in the 8th minute. Then, Joël Beya scored the second goal late in the game. A 2-0 victory, but elimination (4-3 on aggregate).
Al Ahly unstoppable!
Meanwhile, Al Ahly once again showcased their experience. After a 1-0 victory in the first leg, the Egyptians replicated their performance against Al Hilal (1-0) in Nouakchott.
This marks the sixth consecutive qualification for the semi-finals for the reigning African champions.
It's worth noting that the fourth quarter-final match will take place tomorrow, April 9, between Orlando Pirates and MC Alger, to determine the last qualifier for the semi-finals of Africa's most prestigious club competition.
