CAF Cup: "I don't listen to anyone anymore," says Mimosas coach Julien Chevalier
On April 2, 2025, during the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinals, ASEC Mimosas fell 1-0 against RS Berkane at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.
The only goal of the match was scored in the 75th minute by Imad Riahi, taking advantage of an off-guard Ivorian defense. This defeat places ASEC Mimosas in a precarious position ahead of the return leg in Morocco.
Despite this setback, the coach of the Yellow and Black, Julien Chevalier, remains unwavering in his determination. He fully accepts responsibility for this underperformance.
"We can blame the defeat on the coach and spare my players, I agree," he stated in the post-match conference.
Chevalier remains confident about his team's chances of turning the situation around in the return match.
"Anyway, I don't listen to anyone anymore... We're not going to give up like the Yellow Wall and mathematically it's still possible to qualify," declared coach Julien Chevalier with conviction.
The return match, scheduled for April 9, 2025, at the municipal stadium in Berkane, promises to be decisive. The Ivorians will need to deliver an exceptional performance to hope to change the game and reach the semifinals of the competition. RS Berkane, buoyed by their away advantage, will start as favorites, but ASEC Mimosas are determined to play their hand to the fullest.
