CAN U17 2025: Zambia defeats Uganda to secure quarter-final spot
Zambia brilliantly secured their ticket to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa U17 Cup of Nations this Sunday, April 6, 2025. The Junior Chipolopolos triumphed 2-1 against Uganda on the third and final day of the group stage.
This evening at El Arbi Zaouli Stadium, the Zambia U17 team confirmed their status as serious contenders for the title. In this third and final group stage encounter, the Junior Chipolopolos displayed unwavering determination to advance to the next round, despite facing a confident and challenging Ugandan side.
The first goal of this clash came after 20 minutes of play. Kelvin Mulenga Chipelu opened the scoring, giving Zambia the lead before halftime (1-0). Returning from the break, Uganda equalized through defender Elvis Torach, assisted by Bogere (49th minute).
However, Zambia showed resilience. Assisted by Nyirongo in the 86th minute, Billy Daka doubled the lead for the Junior Chipolopolos (2-1). Despite Uganda's repeated efforts in the final minutes, the score remained unchanged. Zambia clinched the crucial three points needed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the CAN U17 2025 and continue their dream. The Junior Chipolopolos finish second in Group A with 7 points, equal to group leaders Morocco.
