Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly reaches 15 goals in a season for the first time
Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly has crossed the 15-goal mark in Ligue 2 during the 2024-2025 season, setting a historic personal record for the Senegalese international. The 26-year-old winger is FC Metz's top scorer this season, ranks fourth among all scorers in the tournament, and is the second-highest African goalscorer in the competition behind Ivorian Jean-Philippe Krasso (17 goals).
An exceptional 2024-2025 season
On May 10, 2025, at Stade Francis Le Basser, Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly reached a major milestone in his career by netting his 15th goal of the Ligue 2 season against Stade Lavallois. This achievement marks a personal high for the Senegalese right winger from FC Metz, who had never before hit such a tally in a single professional season.
A symbolic milestone for Sabaly
Trained at Génération Foot in Senegal, Cheikh Tidiane Sabaly joined FC Metz in 2018. He had to wait before establishing himself in France. After a modest start at Metz and productive stints with Pau FC (including a 10-goal season in National), he also wore the colors of US Quevilly-Rouen in Ligue 2 (2021/2022). But it’s truly in Metz’s jersey that he has fulfilled his potential, notably during the 2022-2023 season when he helped the club earn promotion back to Ligue 1.
At the start of this Ligue 2 season, Sabaly reached new heights. From the very first matches of the 2024/2025 campaign, the Senegalese winger made headlines by scoring the fastest goal in the history of the championship against Rodez on August 23, before notching his first brace for Metz.
A few weeks later, on September 24, he netted a hat trick against Martigues, becoming the league's top scorer at the end of matchday six. His consistency and ruthlessness in front of goal allowed him to reach the symbolic 15-goal mark.
