DDC: Pirates tighten grip on top spot as Chiefs extend winless run

Orlando Pirates remain at the summit of the Dstv Diski Challenge (DDC) table after a 3-1 win over Marumo Gallants, ending a run of back-to-back draws.

Mpho Padime scored a brace, while Cristian Derbyshire made it two goals in his last two appearances to ensure the Buccaneers are three points clear at the top of the log standings with 48 points.

Meanwhile, Mamelodi Sundowns closely trail with 45 points in second spot following a convincing 4-1 victory over Durban City, albeit played one game more than the log leaders.

First-team players Kutlwano Letlhaku and Siyabonga Mabena were on the scoresheet, as prolific forward Bennet Mokoena scored his 14th goal of the season, while the other goal was an own goal.

Siwelele FC maintained their place in position three after a 3-1 triumph against TS Galaxy, while fourth-placed Stellenbosch FC were beaten 1-0 by AmaZulu to make it three games without a win.

Elsewhere, Orbit College continued to impress with a 2-0 win over Richards Bay to move into fifth place, with 30 points accumulated.

Kaizer Chiefs, the defending champions, stretched their winless run to six games, comprising of three defeats and as many draws, after a goalless stalemate with Sekhukhune United.

Amakhosi sit sixth with 29 points, with their last win dating back to 18 January, in what is proving to be a below-par 2025/26 campaign.

At the other end of the table, bottom-placed Chippa United beat Golden Arrows 3-2, while Magesi FC and Polokwane City played to a 2-2 draw in the Limpopo derby.
