UFOA B U20: Côte d’Ivoire defeats Niger to top Group A
Mission accomplished for the Ivorian U20s. This afternoon at the Lycée Scientifique in Yamoussoukro, Côte d’Ivoire overpowered Niger 2-0. With a perfect 6 points from 6, the Elephants finish top of Group A. Both teams have secured a spot in the semifinals of the UFOA B tournament, which serves as the qualifier for the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Young Elephants go all out
After their 5-0 demolition of Benin, Côte d’Ivoire continued their flawless run. Against Niger, the Ivorians made the difference in the second half. Adje Laurent broke the deadlock in the 56th minute. In added time, Namory Keita sealed the win in the 95th minute. Two matches, two victories. The Elephants finish as Group A leaders ahead of Niger.
Niger qualifies despite defeat
The Nigeriens may have lost, but they’re still in the running. They had defeated Benin 1-0 in their opening match. With 3 points, they claim second place in the three-team group and also punch their ticket to the semifinals.

Now, it’s Group B’s turn. Nigeria U20 currently leads, followed by Burkina Faso and Ghana. The outcome of the third matchday, scheduled for tomorrow (Sunday), will determine the Ivorians’ and Nigeriens’ next opponents. With Ghana already qualified as the host nation for the next U20 AFCON, the other spot will go to the champion or runner-up, should the Ghanaians reach the final.
