Death of Aaron Boupendza: accident, suicide or crime?

It is a tragedy that shakes African football. The illustrious Gabonese international Aaron Boupendza, aged 28, passed away this Wednesday, April 16, in China, where he played for Zhejiang Professional.

According to local press relayed by Romanian media, the striker suffered a fatal fall from the 11th floor of his residence located in Zhejiang province.

The Gabonese Football Federation confirmed the terrible news. However, the circumstances surrounding this tragedy remain very unclear for now.

Was it a desperate act by Boupendza?

Suicide, accident, or criminal act? According to the latest information from China, investigators, in collaboration with local authorities, are exploring all leads without favoring any.

No direct witnesses have been able to shed light on the facts so far, and the analysis of surveillance footage could be crucial.

Toxicology tests and an autopsy are also underway to try to uncover the truth behind this tragedy. Meanwhile, the theory of a desperate act or a malicious external act cannot be ruled out.

African football loses a star

Trained at CF Mounana, revealed in Turkey with Hatayspor (22 goals in 2020-21), Boupendza had traversed several continents: France, the Gulf, MLS, Eastern Europe, and China.

Recently sidelined from the national team, the Gabonese maestro seemed ready to relaunch his career.

The entire Foot Africa editorial team extends its condolences to his family and loved ones. Gabonese and African football loses a star.
