Didier Deschamps was approached by Turkey but turned down the manager’s position. According to Le Figaro, the Turkish Football Federation tried to convince the former France coach after the World Cup but failed to secure his agreement.

Deschamps declines Turkey’s offer

Available since the end of his time with Les Bleus, Didier Deschamps was viewed as an option by the Turkish Football Federation to take charge of the national team. However, the French coach declined the offer. Vincenzo Montella therefore remains in charge of Turkey despite the national team’s elimination from the World Cup. Deschamps, for his part, has not yet announced his next destination.

Didier Deschamps had announced as early as last winter that the World Cup held in North America would be his final competition in charge of the France team. After more than a decade on the Les Bleus bench, he left his position at the end of the tournament. France reached the semi-finals before losing to Spain, then lost to England in the third-place play-off. Zinédine Zidane has since succeeded him as France manager.

At 57, Deschamps therefore remains without a new position despite receiving several approaches. Turkey’s offer is one of the first concrete options to have emerged since his departure from Les Bleus. For now, the former 1998 world champion has not yet chosen his next destination.
