Didier Drogba, African football legend, is expected in Windhoek next July. He will participate in the 11th edition of the African Union Region 5 Youth Games, a multisport event that will take place from July 4 to 13 in Namibia.

The former Chelsea striker will attend in his capacity as a global ambassador for the Special Olympics. In this role, he will take part in an exhibition match and the opening ceremony. For Stanley Mutota, the Games' director, his presence is highly symbolic:

We need strong figures to promote inclusion through sport. Drogba embodies this mission. God willing, he will be here with us.

The event will focus on sports for people with disabilities, with a clear aim to change mindsets and policies. Since 2012, Drogba has been actively supporting the Special Olympics, particularly in Ivory Coast.

Through this partnership, he advocates for a more inclusive society, beyond the playing fields. His return to Namibia, more than a decade after his first visit, promises to shine a spotlight on this major pan-African initiative.
