Gianluigi Donnarumma, 27, wants Manchester City to aim for the top. Signed in the summer of 2025 from Paris Saint-Germain to replace Ederson, the Italian goalkeeper believes that the many changes made to the squad should not alter the club’s objectives. For him, City remain above all a team built to win.

Donnarumma rejects talk of a transition

Manchester City have undergone several significant changes in recent seasons, notably with the arrival of numerous players and the replacement of Pep Guardiola by Enzo Maresca. Some observers have therefore described the current campaign as a period of transition.

A view that Gianluigi Donnarumma does not share. Speaking to Sky Sports, the Italy international insisted that the club’s ambitions remain intact. “I don't really like the word transition. The club's objective is to win, this team's objective is to win,” he explained, assuring that the squad will do everything possible to achieve its goals.

The derby against Manchester United as a benchmark

The goalkeeper was also pleased with the victory over Manchester United last weekend. Despite Phil Foden’s early dismissal, Manchester City managed to hold on to their lead and win 1-0. Donnarumma particularly appreciated his teammates’ ability to remain focused in a match that had become difficult.

He particularly praised their effort and the way they handled difficult moments, while also recalling the importance of the shirt and the club’s history. After four rounds of the Premier League, Manchester City have won all four of their opening matches and have the same number of points as Arsenal. The club therefore intends to approach this new season with an unchanged objective: to continue competing at the top and fight for titles.
