Egypt confirms its return to the U17 World Cup after 28 years of absence
After a 28-year wait, the Egyptian national under-17 team has brilliantly secured its ticket to the FIFA U17 World Cup 2025, which will be held in Qatar from November 3 to 27.
An anticipated return to the world stage
On Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida, Egypt faced Angola in a playoff match for the U17 World Cup qualification. The Pharaohs opened the scoring in the 39th minute thanks to Abdel Karim. Hamza Mohamed doubled the lead in the 52nd minute to consolidate Egypt's advantage. Despite a goal by Didissa for Angola in the 83rd minute, Egypt held firm to win 2-1 and secure their ticket to the Qatari World Cup.
This victory marks the end of a long wait for Egypt, which last participated in the U17 World Cup in 1997. The Pharaohs join ten other African teams qualified for the tournament scheduled from November 3 to 27, 2025, in Qatar.
Eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 1997 U17 World Cup, the Egyptians will need to give their all not only to reach that level but also to go beyond.
