Colombian official Oscar Ruiz, the newly appointed head of Egypt’s Referees Committee, has decided to suspend referee Mahmoud El Banna after his controversial officiating in the Enppi vs Zamalek match on Tuesday in the 17th round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Penalty Decision Sparks Debate

Ruiz was unimpressed with the performance of the officiating team which included El Banna & VAR official Mahmoud Ashour. The key point of contention was the penalty awarded to Zamalek for handball which allowed Abdallah El Said to put his team ahead.

The new referees’ chief believes the decision was incorrect and that the officiating team should have reviewed the incident more thoroughly based on handball regulations.

As result both El Banna and Ashour have been suspended for 3 week due to the error in judgment.

Zamalek’s Current Position & Upcoming Fixtures

Zamalek currently sits 3rd in the egyptian premier league standings with 32 point under the management of Portuguese coach Jose Peseiro.
