Elite One: Bamboutos FC exits the Cameroonian championship
In a letter addressed to the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and signed by its deputy president, Bamboutos FC announced its decision to walk out of the championship on Monday, April 14, 2025.
"We regret to inform you of our firm decision to withdraw from the MTN Elite ONE championship organized by the Federation under your leadership during the 2024-2025 season. This decision is the result of numerous grievances that have been particularly detrimental to us, to the point of completely undermining our motivation," wrote the renowned Cameroonian club.
This decision stems from several situations, including the non-payment of bonuses stipulated by the agreement, such as the winner's bonus for the 2022-2023 Super Cup (50 million FCFA), the 2023 runner-up bonus (25 million FCFA), and the unfortunate finalist bonus for the 2022 Cameroon Cup (15 million FCFA). Bamboutos FC also laments the lack of revenue sharing from ticket sales and sponsorship.
Beyond financial aspects, Bamboutos FC accuses FECAFOOT of partiality in organizing competitions. The club claims to be the victim of a campaign orchestrated by the federation's leaders, with officials constantly skewing the results of its matches, directly impacting its standings. Despite efforts made to engage with FECAFOOT, no satisfactory response has been obtained. This ultimately drove the club to this extreme measure.
