Elye Wahi is currently under investigation over allegations of match-fixing related to sports betting. The Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) responded to the situation on June 17, 2026, issuing clarifications on a case that has already started to impact the World Cup for the Nice striker.

No official proceedings so far

In its statement, the Ivorian FA confirmed it learned of the matter through the media. "To date, the federation has not received any official judicial or administrative action regarding this matter."

"During this extremely sensitive period, the federation offers its full support to the player and reaffirms its trust in him." The federation also reminded everyone that "Elye Wahi remains a key part of the national team."

Immediate consequence: ruled out of Germany clash

Meanwhile, the investigation has already had a direct sporting impact: "The player will not be able to travel to Canada. The necessary administrative clearances have not been issued."

As a result, Wahi will remain in the United States and will miss the June 20 clash with Germany in Toronto.
The 23-year-old striker was questioned by police at the end of May after the French league lodged a complaint against persons unknown over suspicious betting linked to a yellow card he received late in the season with Nice against Metz on April 17. According to the league, an unusually high volume of bets was directly associated with that booking.
